Medifast, Inc. (NYSE: MED) is an American nutrition and weight loss company based in Baltimore, Maryland. Medifast produces, distributes, and sells weight loss and health-related products through websites, multi-level marketing, telemarketing, and franchised weight loss clinics.

User "Rachael" writes a negative review on Medifast on the "ConsumerAffairs" website on June 3, 2020:

"Order Kit for the first time. Changed kit preferences and foods that would be ordered. Got an email confirmation. When the kit came it was the prepicked foods in the kit. Called Medifast on 5/21. Was on hold for over an hour and on the phone for almost two hours. First, they wanted me to pay to return products. Then they were going to send me a shipping label and then I could reorder the products, but they were going to give me the first time buyer discount. Finally, they agreed to send me a shipping label and still allow me to call back and get the discount to reorder, but would have to wait 5-7 days on the shipping label and then for the products to be returned before I could place the new order. Never got a shipping label. Calling again today 6/3. Been on hold currently for over 30 mins. Will NEVER use this company or recommend this company to anyone. Very dissatisfied."

"Everything else. Many departments are severely understaffed. Pay is well below the national average. There have been no cost-of-living increases in 6+ years. 'Merit increases' capped for everyone at 3% even though the company made a huge profit in 2017. Since the current CEO came on in October 2016, the company has eliminated all women and all but one person of color from executive leadership positions. The CEO himself is Problematic with a capital P. The general consensus is that you don't matter beyond the dollar signs you represent, especially if you are a woman or any kind of minority."

"Some of the managers talk smart to you and try to belittle you also talk about you while standing near. Don't get sick cause you leave when they tell you to and then points you receive even with doctor notes. Overtime then no work, you can't rely on steady pay."

"There are so many so where to begin. First off you don’t leave till they say you do. So you can never really make much needed plans on a daily basis. There are a few Co workers that expect you to be as fast as they are only after a few days or a week.. They have too high of expectations too soon. Some days you can work 5-6 hrs and then other days it can be 10-12 hr days and you never know till the day of. No one wants to live and work like that.. Need to pay more for the work you do. Just a very disappointing experience."

"CSR's are just another number on a spreadsheet.. Quick to hire and quick to fire. If you need something for a year or so while you go take classes at the university then this might be for you. But it's not for the long term. Expect at least one nasty, rude customer too ruin your day each morning and many of those calls are due to management mistakes. Increase profit for shareholders and lower customer service.There is a gym.You'll be hating your work life after 30 days, Most quit by the time they hit 90 days. Those are the smart ones."

"I I have worked for this company for several years; unfortunately, the once happy, upbeat culture has dissipated into something heinous and unrecognizable. I know every company faces challenges in the communication and organization field, but there are no words for the things I have witnessed- especially in recent months. From the launch of a barely functioning new technology platform to the embarrassing actions and behaviors of some leadership, this company gravely lacks accountability and integrity. Sure our numbers look great, but the employee morale is incredibly low. On the flip-side, I've had the opportunity to train in many sectors- a typical work day is fast-paced; but there is always something to learn. If you are interested in business functionality, this is a great place to get hands-on experience. The only real enjoyable part of this job is the amazing and talented team I get to work with. "Company has taken a 180 degree change from where they were when I was first hired. It used to be a fun, rewarding company, but since the change in CEO, (due to death) has spiraled downward. They are now run by a Donald Trump wannabe, and have become an international-business-seeking, cut-throat, uncaring company that cares ONLY about the family's stock value; little about the customer and zilch about their non-family employees. I recommend that they sell the company and retire to Florida, of course that is probably the family's plan as the president is constantly dumping 100's of thousands of dollars worth of shares.Good product that actually worksNEPOTISM is rampant and results in total chaos with no direction."

"Management was constantly changing direction and positions making it a very difficult company to work for as you never knew which way to go. The only redeeming quality of this company is that the actual product did work and helped thousands of people lose weight. I started there when the company cared about it's customers, three years in the concern switched to the stock holders and making a huge profit. Later the focus switched to their pyramid scheme division, once again leaving the customer at the bottom.Product really worksPoor management"

"I worked for the Coppell warehouse. The supervisor is so immature they go behind your back and talk bad things about how slow you work. They have no respect for your life outside of work, once you go in that building the only thing that matters is work so forget about your kids ,or anything else because you leave when they say so. They lie all the time about what time you will get out so don't make any plans EVER!! because even if you say you have to leave at a certain time they will tell you no. I can go on about this place all day but I will just leave this again WARNING do not apply here."

"Interview goes on for several weeks. They ask you to come in for first, second, third interviews and then their hiring team never even gets back to you. They offer false hope. All the PTO days I used up going on these interviews were a complete waste of time. Communication is very poor. Do not apply unless you want to be strung along for months."

"Emphasis was on weekly sales and numbers causing competitive coworkers to work the system to get high numbers. In essence they would arrange things so they achieved high goals and remained on top weekly, even if it meant backstabbing other coworkers. There were also rigid time factors to get everything in, in one visit, making it tough to be effective at times. Management had favorites. Free Coffee, long lunches.Often times did not have time to drink the coffee. Long work shifts."

"Was not a good work environment, though I did love working with my members. There was a lot of turn over and a large disconnect between corporate and the center. During the day I see the members and give the counseling for their week. What I learned from the job was that I should focus more or those that I am helping."

"The company has done a complete 180 in the last couple of years. Poor leadership combined with the lack of strategy and effective execution, has left the company with flat or decreasing revenues in every division except TSFL. This is a manufacturing company that has NO sales and marketing strategy to speak of which creates total chaos each quarter when it becomes apparent that the company is going to miss it's wall street projections. While there is constant change, it is the senior management team's inability to properly strategize, communicate and manage change that keeps the company from responding to the increased competition and growing revenue. The company has one strategy to manage the business….cut costs. Very little focus on raising revenues because savvy sales and marketing professionals don't stick around or are pushed out.Awesome programs and products. They are the best in the industry.Leadership at the senior management level."

"While I believe the company overall is not as bad as some, I believe if you are in any position OTHER than customer service, you will probably be alright with the wirk environment. However, for those poor folks who have to answer calls, I completely feel sorry for you! Ever notice that Medifast is always hiring for customer service reps? It's because no one can endure that job for too long! The training is subpar, the support from management is mediocre and parking is the absolute worst!!! Do not work there if you plan on driving because half your check will go to parking costs!!! Beautiful view of the city from your workspaceParking is horrible & training is a joke!"

"I enjoyed working with the employees. the hardest part of the job was getting the employees to work with you and not against you. I learned a lot at medifast and hope to use my knowledge else where. A typical day at medifast is on Monday's you start at 6 am and work until you get 3000 orders done. Sometimes it was 3 or 4 and other times it was 5 or 6 pm so I would be there later. You would pick the orders and send them down the belt to go across the QC scale and than to the void fill area and sealer to the truck. There is to much favoritism going on in this company."
